About 10 years but stopped for 4 years during my offshore fishing years, would like to get back into the game.

It's an excellent way to play chess in a casual setting with "live" people. Internet chess can become an "obsession", especially if you play the rating game. Tournement chess is for the very serious, and if you are married (like I am) you would probably end up in divorce court given the huge amount of study, preparation and time-you become addicted and that's your life. Leave it to the pros and single folks! George Laven
